About Sand Hollow State Park
With around 20,000 acres to its name, Sand Hollow State Park is one of the largest in the state. Its natural beauty and many recreational opportunities also make it one of the state’s most visited parks, despite having only been open as a state park since 2003. Although open year-round, the park tends to fill up during peak summer. However, the size of the park helps cut down on crowds. The 1,322 acres of lake surface allows for all the water sports you could dream of. The 6,000 acres of Sand Mountain sand dunes make the park one of the largest dunes in the state.
Things To Do At Sand Hollow State Park
Sand Hollow State Park’s biggest attraction is by far its OHV (off-highway vehicle) activities. Boasting one of the largest sand dunes in the state, Sand Hollow attracts OHV recreationists from around the country and even the world. The park is known to host different OHV tournaments and/or races. If you’re lucky and know where to look, you may just be able to catch one during your stay.
If that isn’t quite to your liking, or you’re just looking for something a bit more mellow, Sand Hollow also offers a variety of hiking and biking trails. The gorgeous sandstone and classic sage make Sand Hollow just as scenic as any of its sister parks in the area. That, and you have the lake itself with its own gorgeous formations that are only rivaled by lakes like Lake Powell. And let’s not forget the sheer size of the lake. If you’re lucky enough to boat or even just looking for a nice spot of beach on which to relax, the lake is easily big enough to accommodate without feeling crowded.
